it’s perhaps still too early to call, but democratic party has battered its opponents (despite all contraventions in some provinces) . based on different quick counts hold by different institutions, the party has a comfortable lead of 5% from its closest rivals (pdip and golkar). one even predicted the party would reach the minimum requirement to nominate its own president-vice president candidates, i.e. 25% of the total votes, when the results of manual calculation by the General Election Committee (kpu).
the election basically provides no shock. democratic party comfortable leads the chart followed by indonesian democratic party-struggle (pdip) and golkar. prosperous justice party (pks), national mandate party (pan), and national awakening party (pkb) complete the top 6. meanwhile, two new parties, great indonesia movement party (gerindra) and the people’s conscience party (hanura), are also on the top 10.
it’s interesting to see what’s going to happen from now to the date of the presidential election. will Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) become indonesia’s next president? or will Megawati Soekarnoputri able to dethrone the incumbent president? the money looks good on the former though.
